Lindsey Moore Hielan Hands, Pitlochry, Perthshire, complementary therapists Heilan hands
My interest in complementary therapies was sparked by fellow Hielan Hands member Jacqui Calder after I benefited from her Herbal Medicine. I was fascinated by the holistic approach to health and loved both the tradition of the therapies and the modern, science based research into their efficacy. I subsequently spent three years studying with the College of Phytotherapy and latterly for two years with Perth College, from where I graduated with an HND and as their Complementary Therapist of the Year. Over these years I received excellent training in a variety of subjects including anatomy and physiology, pathology, biochemistry and pharmacology. I also benefited from receiving training in counselling. I am currently studying two further diplomas in order to broaden my knowledge in this field. I hope to start teaching in this area very shortly.
Since starting my studies in 2000 I have been fortunate enough to see clients all over the country, from a busy clinic in Edinburgh to a quiet country clinic in the South of England. I have worked in a variety of settings including care homes and a psychiatric unit, in each situation witnessing the benefits that complementary therapies can provide.
My approach to Aromatherapy is deeply holistic and I therefore carry out an in-depth consultation with all new clients so that I may gain an insight into all aspects of their health. I can then choose essential oils that will benefit both their physical and emotional needs. I choose oils based on their therapeutic benefits, as supported by both scientific analysis and clinical trials, and by empirical evidence. My choice of massage technique will vary according to the client’s needs. I have received training in both Swedish and Sports massage. Due to the broad range of therapeutic actions exhibited by the numerous essential oils, a wide variety of health complaints can benefit from Aromatherapy. Because essential oils communicate with the limbic system in the brain (the seat of our emotions), this therapy is particularly applicable to conditions where stress, anxiety or low mood play a part. I have a particular interest in the treatment of conditions related to stress and anxiety, including IBS, tension headaches and insomnia. Where applicable I discuss with clients how they may use essential oils day to day to promote improved health and individually made products may be created and used at home.
